5 Ways to prepare your skincare wardrobe for autumn

It’s no secret that the summer of ’22 has been one of the hottest on record and allowed us to bask in extended periods of sunshine and warmth. With autumnal temperatures rapidly declining, it’s important that our clients skincare regimes aren’t caught off guard. Small adjustments and changes to the autumn skincare wardrobe can make all the difference.

1. Change up the cleanser.
It's important to ensure the cornerstone of the skincare regime is adjusted according to the season. Whilst a foaming face wash may be the best solution during the hot summer months to break down excess surface oils, combining its use with a drop in temperature and humidity makes the skin more susceptible to moisture loss and can become dehydrated with a tight feeling.

Look to switch to a lotion or cream-based cleanser formulated with nourishing oils which support epidermal layers by maintaining skin lipids without drying.

Most modern lotion and cream-based cleanser can still be rinsed with water to ensure that clean feeling. For those clients who still want a foaming action, Dynamic Resurfacing Cleanser is packed with argan and cotton seed oils and offers a cream textured cleanse with a mildly foaming action to deeply cleanse, resurface and nurture the skin in one go.

2. Increase exfoliation.
Autumnal skin can quickly become dull with the remnants of summer tan and skin build up adding to a lacklustre appearance.

Increasing exfoliation helps to give a refreshed complexion and brightened appearance, whilst increasing cellular turnover and removing the dead skin cells that can hinder the effective absorption of serums and moisturisers.

A scrub based exfoliant like Exfoliating Scrub formulated with natural bamboo and soya and used twice a week will effectively slough away dulling cells to reveal soft, brightened skin.

For those who experience ageing concerns, uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation, an advanced exfoliant may be better suited. Opt for a masque-like exfoliant like Resurfacing Cream Exfoliant which is left on the skin for 10 minutes whilst fruit-based acids dissolve and digest the glue that holds cells together for an intensive resurfacing, intensively smoothing the skin and promoting even skin colour for a monotone complexion.

3. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate.
Humidity in the autumn season decreases which can leave skin feeling parched of moisture and tight. Including a hydrating serum into the regime is great all year round but essential during the colder months.

Choosing a serum packed with hyaluronic acid will pay dividends to any skincare regime. This super ingredient is suitable for all skin types and conditions and imparts the skin layers with intensive hydration, binding up to a thousand times its own weight in moisture. Hydrating Serum locks in skin moisture whilst softening and plumping fine lines leaving skin looking healthy, hydrated, and dewy.

The inclusion of additional hydration with Soothing Masque will further boost epidermal moisture. Masques formulated with aloe vera, and green tea offer unrivalled benefits and further support for a soft and supple complexion.

4. Don’t forget the SPF
Whilst the sun isn’t blazing as it was in the months gone by, its destructive UV rays are still present and can catch us off guard leading to ongoing ageing and skin tone issues. Now is the time to reiterate the importance of consistent SPF use – even on those gloomy days.

An SPF of no less than 15, applied in all daylight hours is a message to keep hammering home and will not only protect the skin from cell damage but help to defend against premature skin ageing, maintaining your fresh faced look.

Applying a standalone SPF as the final step of the day time regime is the most effective way to protect the skin, but for those who are time compressed, a multi-purpose moisturiser with built in SPF can be a great practical option. C+Bright Priming Moisturiser SPF30 is a four-in-one formulation, moisturising brightening, protecting from damaging UV, and priming, in one easy application.

5. Neglected areas
Remember to take care of often neglected areas such as the lips and hands as these areas can often see concerns appear rapidly.

Nourishing the lips with Seal & Protect Moisturising Lip Balm an emollient lip protector packed with shea butter and jojoba oils will soften and soothe this delicate skin keeping them supple and hydrated whilst imparting a barrier to cold autumnal temperatures which can cause dryness. This formulation is combined with built in SPF to defend against UV damage.

Hands should be cared for too with an easily absorbed hand cream. Hand & Nail Rescue Cream SPF20 is formulated with hyaluronic acid and sunflower oil to hydrate and intensively nourish these frequently exposed areas, whilst sunscreens defend against damaging UV light responsible for premature skin ageing and hyperpigmentation, often seen on the back of the hands.
